South Carolina Grand Council journal, 1671-1883.

ArchivalResource

South Carolina Grand Council journal, 1671-1883.

Handwritten copies of the proceedings (1671-1721) of the South Carolina Grand Council copied by an unknown individual (ca. 1883) from a copy made by John S. Green (who edited, compiled, copied and attempted to "supply defects" in the records) in 1851. Green copied the proceedings from "an old book of miscellaneous records found in the Ordinary's office at Charleston" (S.C.) and from loose sheets found in the Secretary of State's office at Charleston, South Carolina. Also includes a written statement (1883, p. 196) signed and sealed by the Secretary of State, James N. Lipscomb, certifying that it is "a true copy of the Journal of the Grand Council No. 1 as recorded in this office."
